Bahrain has reaffirmed its global leadership in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector by securing the fifth position worldwide in the 2024 ICT Development Index (IDI), as published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This marks the second consecutive year that Bahrain has achieved this distinction, ranking third among Arab nations.

The ITU’s IDI is a pivotal component of the Measuring the Information Society Report, offering critical insights into countries’ ICT progress based on access, usage, and skills. Bahrain’s outstanding score of 97.5 significantly exceeds the global average of 74.8, highlighting its robust ICT strategy for 2022-2026.

Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Mohammed Al Kaabi credited Bahrain’s continuous advancement to strategic efforts aimed at fostering innovation and digital transformation. These efforts align closely with the kingdom’s economic goals, championed by His Majesty King Hamad and supported by the government led by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The minister emphasized that Bahrain’s ambitious ranking underscores its commitment to sustainable development and comprehensive digital integration across economic sectors. This achievement not only enhances Bahrain’s regional influence but also sets a precedent for global ICT excellence.
