Abu Dhabi ranks as world’s safest city, tops GCC in quality of life index

Several Gulf cities have been ranked among the safest in the world, according to the latest update from the ‘Crime Index by City 2024 Mid-Year’ by Numbeo. The list includes Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Doha, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, and Oman as some of the top cities globally in terms of safety.

Out of 311 cities, Abu Dhabi ranked highest on the safety index with a score of 88.2 and lowest on the crime index at 11.8. Ajman followed in second place with a safety index score of 84.2 and a crime index of 15.8. Doha came in third with scores of 83.9 and 16.1, respectively. Dubai secured the fifth spot with a safety index of 83.7 and a crime index of 16.3. Ras Al Khaimah was sixth (82.3 and 17.7), and Oman was seventh (80.6 and 19.4).

In total, six out of the top 10 cities on the safety index are from the GCC region. Riyadh and Jeddah, from Saudi Arabia, ranked 35th and 43rd, with safety index scores of 74.5 and 73.7, respectively. Kuwait City ranked 65th, scoring 70.2 on the safety index and 29.8 on the crime index.

Other notable cities in the top 10 include Taipei, ranked fourth (83.7 and 16.3), The Hague at eighth (79.8 and 20.2), and Munich in Germany and Trondheim in Norway rounding out the top 10.

The GCC cities also performed well in the ‘Quality of Life Index by City 2024 Mid-Year’ from Numbeo. Abu Dhabi led the GCC cities with a Quality of Life index score of 192.4, ranking 17th. Dubai and Doha ranked 49th and 48th, with scores of 174.1 and 174.3, respectively. Muscat scored 185.4, ranking 30th, while Kuwait City was 111th with a score of 136.2. Riyadh and Jeddah were 63rd and 64th, scoring 167.3 and 165.9, respectively.

Leading the Quality of Life Index globally is The Hague with a score of 223.8, followed by Luxembourg, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and Zurich in Switzerland.
